How does the mykie®-treatment work?

Basics

The mykie®-treatment is based on a cause-oriented approach that targets the root cause of many later dental and jaw problems: function. Unlike conventional therapies, which focus on treating symptoms, mykie® relies on naturally activating the body’s own developmental processes through targeted control of breathing, tongue position, and muscular balance in the mouth and face.

Body = Therapist

The body as therapist – with guidance

The central goal is to give the body the conditions it needs to develop its growth potential again on its own. The focus is on restoring functional foundations:

  • The transition from mouth breathing to nose breathing is the first and most important step. Closed lips and calm nasal breathing are essential for balanced muscle tension and healthy jaw development.
  • At the same time, the correct resting position of the tongue on the palate is trained – this acts as an internal growth stimulus, gently and naturally shaping the upper jaw in width and forward
  • This functional normalization creates a slight negative pressure in the mouth, which stabilizes the mouth closure, harmonizes the tooth position, and guides jaw growth in a physiological direction.

Effects

Gentle, preventive, stable – with measurable effects

The effects are evident on several levels:

  • Jaw growth: Early support for jaw development often eliminates the need for later treatment with fixed braces. Extractions of permanent teeth are avoided because targeted stimulation creates more space instead of removing teeth.
  • Tooth position: The teeth can move into the correct position on their own – not through external force, but through internal balance.
  • Face shape and airways: Promoting a forward and broad growth pattern has a positive effect on facial development and the width of the airways – a possible protective factor against later respiratory disorders such as snoring or sleep apnea.
  • Temporomandibular joint stability: The harmonious development of the jaw and bite helps prevent temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) in adolescence and adulthood.

Benefits

Holistic health benefits

In addition to the directly visible changes in the oral cavity, mykie® therapy also has a positive effect on many areas of general health:

  • Breathing quality improves, leading to better oxygen supply.
  • Allergies and susceptibility to infections can be significantly reduced, as nasal breathing takes over filter functions that are lost during mouth breathing.
  • Many children benefit from a more restful sleep, show less daytime tiredness, and improve their ability to concentrate.
  • Nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) can also be significantly reduced through functional stabilization.
  • Last but not least, a significant improvement in posture is often observed, as the position of the head, neck, and tongue are more closely connected than one might think at first glance.

The mykie® treatment does not use forced tooth movements, but activates the natural potential of the child’s body through the targeted restoration of functional patterns. The result is not only better tooth alignment, but also healthier overall growth, more stable development, and a child who can breathe freely
